4 Tips & Queries For IBPS PO Exam 2013 – Is Calculator Allowed?

For the last 2 years all public sector units, except State Bank of India and its associate banks, are hiring their employees through a Common Written Examination (CWE) managed and conducted by the IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). The Common Written Exam for PO for public sector banks will be held on October 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th respectively.

Here are few answered Exam Queries, Shared Tips, Strategies to clear the Upcoming Bank PO Exam, and avoid last minute mistake and confusion.

1) Is Calculator Allowed for PO Exam?No_Calculators

Answer – No, You are not allowed to use or have in possession calculator in the examination premises. This is a very common question received by us from various students, so please note that Mobile Phones, Pagers or any other communication devices are also strictly banned in the exam premises.
Make sure that you do not carry any such device (even by mistake), else a disciplinary action may be taken which may ban you from future examinations as well.

2) How to manage time in PO Exam?

Answer – Proper Time Management is very essential for IBPS PO this year, because in the new exam pattern, time duration has been reduced to 2 hours (as compared to 2 hours 30 minutes last year), also the weightage is different for every section.

Tips for Time Management:
Avoid hopping between sections, complete one section and then move to the next section.
• First attempt sections, you are most confident about.
• Leave the questions you have no clue about, there is 0.25 negative marking for a wrong reply.
• Allocate last few minutes for rechecking.

3) Is there Negative Marks for Wrong Answers?

Answer – Yes, there is a penalty for for wrong answers in objective test, 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question is deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score.

For Wrong Answers – 0.25 marks Penalty, For Question Left Blank – No Penalty, so what should you do?
Take calculative Risks –
Ideally a lot of candidates will leave the questions blank about which they are not confident about, but I suggest attempt even if you are somewhat confident.
If there are 6 such questions you attempt, and 4 are wrong but 2 are right, you still get 1 mark, but leaving them blank will not get you anything, and remember, every mark is very important.

4) What Strategy to Apply for the Online Examination :

Answer – There is nothing like the best strategy or fixed rules, but since IBPS Common Written Exam contains sectional cut-offs and candidates are expected to maintain a minimum score in each section, candidate should properly plan which section to attempt first and which should be attempted last.

• Allocate Time to sections keeping in mind that weightage differs for every section.
• If possible try and practise some other online test as well, it will help you gain confidence for online exam, especially if you are attempting for the 1st time.
• Form a strategy such that you are able to clear the sectional cut-offs and also maximize your overall score.

Along with the above tips please remember the following:
o Produce and submit the requisite documents such as valid call letter, a photocopy of photo-identity proof at the time of examination.
o Reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before exam; remember traffic in India is unpredictable.
o During the exam do not use your keyboard, use only mouse to answer questions, else the whole test will be locked.
o Practise Previous PO Papers, Update yourself on Current Affairs and General Customer Related Terms.
