ISRO launches PSLV C23 successful

  • The mission PSLV-C23 injected SPOT-7, a French earth observing satellite, and four other foreign satellites out of which two from Canada and one each from Germany and Singapore, into the desired orbits.
  • This marks exclusive commercial launch by India and the 26th consecutive successful launch of PSLV.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the PSLV-C23 launch at Sriharikota.

Israel to open two ‘agriculture centres of excellence’ in Bihar

  • On agriculture centre in Nalanda district would be for vegetables and in Vaishali district for mangoes.
  • Israel has already set up 28 such agriculture centres of excellence in various states in India.

China to set up industrial park in India

  • Indian cabinet gave an in-principle approval for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and China for setting up industrial parks in the country.
  • Issue will discuss during Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s visit to China.
  • He will visit China to celebrate 60th year of Panchsheel.

Rs. 12,500 cr for pending transmission projects

  • Power Ministry has approved nine projects aggregating Rs 12,500 crore that been stuck pending approvals.
  • The projects will benefit states like Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
  • The move will enable high capacity 765 kv lines carrying up to 2,100 MW each and construction of new 765/400kv sub stations.

David Bergvinson: Next director general ICRISAT

  • David Bergvinson will be the next director general of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
  • ICRISAT conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
  • He succeeds the current director general, William Dar, who has served the institute since 1999.
  • Its Headquartered is in Patancheru near Hyderabad, with two regional hubs and six country offices in sub-Saharan Africa.

Governor Narayanan, Governor West Bengal, resignes

  • West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan resigned from his post.
  • He is fourth governor appointed by the erstwhile UPA regime to quit before the end of their term since the BJP-led government took office last month.

Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul

  • Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul caught in a controversy after a video which shows threatening to gun down his Marxist rivals and “unleash his boys for raping” women.
  • His remarks created hue and cry in the society and political arena.

Vakkom B. Purushothaman: Governor Mizoram

  • Mizoram Governor Vakkom B. Purushothaman Monday took additional charge as the governor of Tripura.
  • He was appointed Mizoram governor by then president Pratibha Patil in August 2011.

Laurent Fabius: French foreign Minister visits India

  • French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius arrives in India  meets Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and others.
  • He was the first such high level personality from western counties to meet newly elected Modi government in New Delhi. 

Rakhi Sawant joins RPI

  • Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant now joined the Republican Party of India (RPI) as the national executive president of its women’s wing.
  • She was in election from Mumbai North-West seat as a candidate of ‘Rashtriya Aam Party’ founded by her just before the polls.

Sahebzadi Faizunnisa, daughter-in-law of the Seventh Nizam: died

Sahebzadi Faizunnisa, daughter-in-law of the Seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, passed away at 92.

  • She was daughter of Ziauddin Khan Jagirdar and she was married to Hasham Jah in 1935.
  • Faizunnisa was laid to rest in the graveyard of Masjid-e-Judi in Hyderabad.

City Montessori School:  Official NGO of the UN

  • City Montessori School has been registered as an official NGO of the UN.
  • The school was registered with the department of public information of the UN as a non-governmental organisation.
  • The city-based school chain with over 50,000 students in its various branches.

GAIL pipeline fire: 15 died in Andhra

  • A huge blast and fire took place at a gas pipeline belonging to the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.
  • At least 15 people were burnt to death and about 30 others injured in the incident.

‘Rani-Ki-Vav’ and Great Himalayan National Park in World Heritage list

  • The 11th century ‘Rani-Ki-Vav’ (The Queen’s Stepwell) has been added to Unesco’s list of World Heritage sites.
  • UNESCO has recognised Rani-Ki-Vav stepwell as an exceptional example of utilising ground water resources which is situated in  Patan, Gujarat.
  • The Great Himalayan National Park Conservation Area (GHNPCA) in Himachal Pradesh, also got the coveted Unesco tag of a world heritage site.
  • The GHNPCA, located in Kullu district.

  • Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express derailed in Chhapra in Bihar.
  • Five  Killed, many injured.

Alipurduar: Bengal’s 20th district

  • Alipurduar has become the 20th district of West Bengal which has been carved out by bifurcating Jalpaiguri district.
  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee formally declared Alipurduar as the state’s 20th district.

UNODC launches drug information system

  • The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) launched an integrated drug information system (IDIS).

“Jang-e-Azaadi” (War of Independence)

  • Punjab will set up a “Jang-e-Azaadi” (War of Independence) memorial near Jalandhar \.
  • The memorial would be completed within two years by August 2016.

Delhi Metro tie up with ICICI

  • ICICI Bank joined hands joint its hands with Delhi Metro to launch the “Unifare Card” that combines the benefits of a debit/credit card, along with a Delhi Metro Smart Card.
  • With this, the customers will only have to swipe the card at the station instead of waiting in queues.

Jaitley Lays Foundation Stone for HQ IDS Building

  • The Defence Minister Shri Arun Jaitley today unveiled the foundation stone for HQ Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) Building Complex at Mehramnagar, Delhi Cantt.
  • The Integrated Defence Staff was set up by the Government of India in October 2001

Sudarsan Pattnaik won international award

  • Odisha sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has won a prize at the sand sculpting World Cup in the US.
  • The 37-year-old artist was the lone participant from India at the June 15-29 competition in Atlantic City.
  • Pattnaik is a recipient of the Padma Shri award

N. Srinivasan: Chairman of ICC

Narayanaswami Srinivasan on 26 June 2014 was formally appointed as the first Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

  • Mustafa Kamal of Bangladesh was named as the 11th President of the ICC.

Jitu Rai: Win three medals in ISSF shooting World Cup

  • She became the first Indian to win three medals 19 June 2014.
