Most of the aspirants are gearing up their preparation for upcoming SBI PO Exam; Preparing for the Objective Test, Current Affairs, Quantitative Aptitude, Interview but a lot of the candidates often take Descriptive Paper lightly, for which they often pay the price in form of rejection while few score really low because of this section. In this article, based on the past trends, I shall try to analyze the various sub – parts of this section.

Descriptive Paper will test the following skills-
1. Letter Writing
2. Essay Writing
3. Paragraph Writing
4. Precis Writing
5. Reading Comprehension
Let us discuss How to attempt Descriptive Test
1. Letter Writing – Here being concise is the key, Aspirants think long lengthy letters can fetch them good marks which is actually not the case; Presentation, Format and being straight to the point is the key. In this section both formal and informal letters can be asked .
2. Essay Writing – As there is no specific format for writing an Essay, this part is bit easier. However I would suggest you to write an essay in 3 parts for scoring well
* Introduction
* Main Body
* Conclusion
3. Paragraph Writing – Here again the aim is to test your knowledge and how effectively one can write within the specified word limit.
4. Precis Writing – A passage , comprising of multiple paragraphs is given and aspirant is asked to write a precis of it. Technically, it should be short and written in own words. To quantify it more we can say that it is two -third of the given passage. Here complex words are used in the passage to judge whether a candidate is able to understand lengthy paragraphs with high level of vocabulary, one who takes essence of this and skilfully write a list of the paragraph can score well. Also whether asked or not to score well you must provide a precis a suitable topic.
5. Reading Comprehension – A long passage is given and you are required to answer series of questions. Here reading and understanding ability of a candidate is tested. One who understands the ideology and thoughts of the writer narrating the passage can score well. Try to answer questions in your own words and be precise. Try to answer what is asked don’t just paste your answers from the given passage.
Final Tips to score well in Descriptive Paper –
1. Manage your time efficiently – Do not devote your time in answering, thinking too much about a particular question . Always remember if you attempt all the questions you will have a chance to score well. Leaving any question will reduce your chances.
2. Carry Stationary – Use a pen with good grip and the one you are used to.
3. Quality Writing – Focus on the quality and don’t try to increase the length of your answers.
