Interview Tips For Bank PO – Common Questions Asked in IBPS / SBI Interview

Fielding the ‘googly’!
Dwell on these popular personal interview questions that are often posed to Banking Aspirants by an Interviewer.

For IBPS PO or SBI PO, personal interview (PI) forms part of the selection process, while for some it could be a cake walk, for others it may turn them into a bundle of nerves. Though interview sessions can be quite unpredictable, a bit of preparation, however, may help reach the last mile. There are no thumb-rules to clear an interview session. But one quality that can help one sail through comfortably is being honest.

1) Tell Us Something About Yourself.
A) Perhaps, this is one of the most commonly posed questions and one should always be prepared to face it. Without following any particular order, one can talk about educational or professional background, interests and hobbies, strengths or weaknesses. However, try to say something different from what’s already provided on the resume. The question is posed to gauge a candidate’s communication skills, body language and confidence.

2) Can You Walk Me Through Your Resume.
A) This could be a tough cookie provided one has rehearsed well in advance and is aware of the strengths and key experiences.

3) Where Do You See Yourself 5 – 10 Years From Now?
A) This one seems to be the favourite among the interviewers and is often posed even at a later stage in a job interview. The basic rule is to remain honest and gather some initial insight about the field that one wishes to specialise in.

4) Tell Us About Your Weaknesses
A) Strengths, why not… but weaknesses? This question could leave one tongue tied. However, a bit of introspection could help come up with a suitable reply which perhaps needs to be substantiated with reasoning. Come up with a genuine weakness and then quickly move on to talking about how to tackle it. For instance, “I sometimes get into a negative thinking mode. However, since I know my weakness, I can easily work towards overpowering it” Refrain from uttering something like, “I have no weaknesses.”

5) Why Do You Want To Take Up Probationary Officer Job?
A) For a fresher graduate, the answer to this could be that an PO job would provide an ideal platform to foray into the corporate banking world. While for those with an earlier work experience, one could talk about the future and growth prospects of Banking Sector in India. However, refrain from giving vague or clichéd answers like, “to make more money” or “want to gain more knowledge.”
