The Job Profile of a Clerical Cadre in a Bank is briefly discussed below :
After the candidate clears all rounds of bank job selection process (online test+interview) he has to undergo training for few weeks and then is placed either in a branch or at administrative office. All selected candidates are put through a probation period of 6 months (approximately), and after probation period they undergo examination on the passing of which they are confirmed as permanent employees.
The job of a Clerk in Banking is quite important, as they are the first point of contact between the bank and the customers for basic enquires and guidance.
Job Profile of Clerk includes the following :
• Clerks are responsible for withdrawals and deposits of customers.
• They are responsible for accepting payments, cheque verification, issuing of demand drafts, sanction checks etc.
• Back office work which involves keying in all the daily transactions into the system after customer hours.
• In addition, they need to do marketing of various bank products like loans, deposits, life insurance etc.
Pay Scale of a Clerk in Government Bank :
Most Government banks in India are offered the following pay scale to Clerks at the time of joining:-
Rs. 7200 – (400×3) – 8400 – (500×3) – 9900 – (600×4) – 12300 – (700×7) – 17200 – (1300×1) – 18500 – (800×1) – 19300
The Basic Pay of a clerk at the time of joining will be around Rs.7200/- (the figures in the brackets indicate the annual increment and the number of stages for which the same is applicable). So for the next 3 appraisals, the clerk can expect an increment of 400 on the basic pay, which will total up to 8400 (7200+1200).
In addition to basic pay candidates are eligible for the following allowances :-
(a) Dearness Allowance (DA) : DA in banks is revised on quarterly basis (i.e. in the months of February, May, August and November) based on the CPI as declared by Government of India. The current DA (for the month of February 2014; March 2014, April 2014 has been fixed at 99.90% of the Basic Pay). DA varies as per the inflation rate.
(b) HRA : The HRA is either 10% or 9% or 7.5% and 7% depending on the place of posting.
Summing up basic pay, dearness allowance and HRA the total salary of a clerk on joining a government bank in an metro area come to around Rs.15,000/.
The total salary of a clerk who has to join in rural area will be about Rs.14900/-.
Apart from basic pay, DA and HRA the clerk can also be paid certain special allowances which are specific to the job you have been allocated viz. Cashier or CTO (approximately Rs.1000/-)
Thus to conclude, salary of a PO clerk consists of Basic Pay + DA + HRA + special allowance.
